Student Senate Meeting
The WKU Student Senate meets at 5 p.m. every Tuesday in the Senate Chamber located on 2nd floor in DSU.
According to the WKU SGA Constitution, Senate Committees are the “legislative vehicles for the Senate.” This means that most of the legislation presented before the Student Senate emerged from a committee that had deliberated over its contents. All SGA senators are required to serve on at least one committee, but committee membership is not limited to senators. While committee chair positions are reserved for senators, any WKU student can be a part of a committee and participate in the committee’s activities and discussions.
Below is a list of all WKU SGA Senate committees. To join a committee, please attend our Student Senate meetings every Tuesday at 5 PM on the second floor of the Downing Student Union (DSU).
The Legislative Research Committee – Collects and reviews all proposed legislation prior to the second reading before the Senate; ensures that all proposed legislation has been properly researched by the author; determines the constitutionality of all proposed legislation and decide whether or not any conflict exists with a previous piece of legislation; and performs duties as delegated by the Senate or the consensus of the Executive Cabinet.
The Student Affairs Committee – Serves the student body on all non-academic affairs performs duties as delegated by Senate or the consensus of the Executive Cabinet.
The Academic Affairs Committee – Serves the student body on all academic matters and performs duties as delegated by the Senate or the consensus of the Executive Cabinet.

The Sustainability Committee – Focuses on incorporating sustainability into university academics and demonstrating sustainability in operational practices as good stewards of resources and a model of exemplary practices for the campus and greater community. This committee works on myriad issues facing many college campuses and communities across the United States such as recycling, paper usage, renewable energy, reducing a university’s carbon emissions, and members assist the WKU Sustainability Coordinator who leads the WKU Office of Sustainability.
The MyCampusToo Task Force – MyCampusToo (MCT) is WKU SGA’s premier effort to prioritize diversity and inclusion to ensure all students feel welcome at WKU. It is the mission of WKU SGA to fully represent all students and we cannot achieve that when the perspectives of some students are left out. Our organization and governance is only as strong as our representation, and SGA can always do better at ensuring that underrepresented and marginalized students feel welcome at WKU. As such, this Task Force under the Student Senate has been created to carry out the broad mission of MCT.
