SGA Meets to Kick off a Busy Year

Welcome back to school, Hilltoppers! The first SGA meeting of the year was filled with lots of news and plans for the upcoming school year. The full story is below, but a few notes to remember:
  • Applications for individuals interested in running for Senate positions this fall are due September 6th. You can get that application here. Fill it out and drop it off at our offices (2nd floor of Downing Student Union) or email it to sga@wku.edu.
  • All WKU students are invited to get involved with SGA committees. What interests you? Sustainability? Campus diversity? Let us know what you want to be a part of.

At 5:00 on Tuesday, August 6 the first Student Government Association Meeting began with the bang of a gavel. Several new Senators were sworn as the first order of business.

Following this, Chief Facilities Officer Bryan Russell Addressed the  chambers about a new parking structure SGA had advocated for in the Spring.

Next, president Jay Todd Richey shared some of the projects SGA would be working on this semester. Another part of the President’s report included Richey explaining his “no” vote on the Medical Center project. crjceonxyain48v

Other 2016-2017 initiatives for SGA include the launch of a new campus safety app, Rave Guardian (Google play version here) and the Earn-A-Computer program, where students can earn a free refurbished Mac computer after working 35 hours of community service.

Several WKU students and SGA senators spoke at the meeting as well, discussing disability scholarships, WKU eSports, the Center for Citizenship and Social Justice, absentee voting, and Honors dorm policies.

See more from the meeting here on our Storify account, and join us next Tuesday on the 2nd floor of DSU at 5 p.m.
